Mr. Matsunobu has a master degree of Mechanical Engineering.


  • He has 33 years career as an engineer of nuclear, space station equipment, etc. of Hitachi Ltd. with 13 years experience in the field of Wind Turbine Generation.

  • He had dispatched to the ITER, International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, Joint Central Team under the terms ofthe ITER Engineering Design Activities (EDA) Agreement between EU, USA and Japan, from 1998 to 2000.

  • He has issued technical papers, “Seismic Design of Offshore Wind Turbine Withstands Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami”,“Power Generation, Distribution and Substation System for Development of Offshore Wind Farms”, etc.

  • He has influenced on wind energy industries and academic societies as a board member of JWEA: Japan Wind Energy Association, the leader of technical committee of JWPA: Japan Wind Power Association, a secretary of Wind committee of NEF: New Energy Foundation and so on.


Topic: Hitachi Wind Business Development and Contribution Plan to Taiwan

Taiwan does not have so much population that total power plant capacity is around 49 GW. Penetration rate of wind energy is still low, around only 1.4 %. There may be large margin to grow in wind energy. Bureau of Energy well considers these situation, sets out clear policy and points out some matters of concern of environmental conditions, power grid system, and so on. Wind Power Development Target is 1.2 GW onshore and 5.5 GW offshore by 2025. To achieve a goal the power grid system has to solve supply-demand mismatch and keep reserve margin. From the view point of severe environmental conditions wind turbines, installation vessels, inspection vehicles have to have suitable design to the environmental situations. This presentation introduces Hitachi technologies related with turbine design, installation method, vessels, port facilities, inspection vehicles, power grid control solutions, etc.

Hitachi Wind turbines employ down wind rotor position in order to adapt Taiwanese environmental conditions. There used be the issue of tower wake affect on the blade at every rotation of rotor. Hitachi solved the issue by giving longer distance between tower and blades. After these problems were settled, an advantage of a down wind system can be utilized. Accurate wind detection by anemometers installed in front of blade makes the downwind turbines possible to get accurate turbine control as result in more AEP, Annual Energy Production, than up wind configuration. The efficiency of downwind turbines is improved by wind speed increased along the nacelle shape using the Bernoulli's theorem and lengthened moment arm. Number of 184 Hitachi down wind turbines have successfully operated. Some of them keep stable operation over 10 years. Hitachi has a wide range of lineups which are suitable for the sever environment and wind conditions. HTW2.0 series covers from mountain side, plain to offshore. HTW 5.2 series covers mainly offshore applications.
From the view point of environmental conditions every Hitachi down wind turbine has durable for typhoon, lightning attack, earthquake and tsunami.

To meet the requirements from power system operation Hitachi grid technologies are useful. These technologies have many features, location free, enables system integration and integration of system management centers. An application of this system is a kind of energy management system. This may contribute to keep demand-supply balance of power system with Hitachi LUMADA, IoT, AI solutions.

From installation to operation wind turbine needs vehicle, vessel, port facilities, etc. Hitachi and Japanese companies have many kinds of marine technologies, which are important to boost offshore wind business. These technologies cover activities, transportation, installation, anchoring and mooring. Submarine construction technologies are also essential to develop offshore wind business. Mound leveling is needed to lay down gravity foundation. Support structure of offshore wind shall be periodically inspected by divers or remote controlled vehicle to keep its function and to avoid scouring. Hitachi and Japanese companies are keen to contribute to the expansion of Taiwanese renewable energy with Taiwanese companies.
